"ZER01NE.CITY v1.0" is an open innovation project conceived by ZER01NE and born out of collaborations between ZER01NE management, ZER01NE creators, the Hyundai Motor Group’s Namyang Research Lab Vehicle Usability Development Team, and media tech startups. They debated the future of autonomous driving, developing theories as to how self-driving cars will change both our urban cityscapes and our daily lives.

ZER01NE.CITY is the name of the near-future city this team has devised. In 2035, PBV (Purpose Built Vehicles), UAM (Urban Air Mobility), energy and infrastructure technology enable flexible movement from the city center to suburbs; the arrival of the ‘hyper way’ infrastructure allowing for high-speed movement and charging of vehicles simultaneously has made it possible to cover long distances in a short period of time.

In this exhibition, visitors enter ’Z-Station,’ a UAM and PBV transfer terminal, specifically designed for collaboration between creatives. Once there, they board a future self-driving car and head to ‘ZER01NE.CITY’. Inside the self-driving car, visitors encounter above them Artificial Intelligence ’Aion’; meanwhile, through the windscreen and the windows, they experience the surrounding landscape as interactive games, artwork, and music created through environmental data collected by the car’s LiDAR sensors.

The team’s official name, HZ01-MNAZ-RND-001, takes an initial from each participating team. Beyond signaling the unusual nature of the collaboration at hand, this name also stands as a “creative formula” specific to ZER01NE—bringing works of the imagination into the realm of possibility through the convergence of art and technology. 001 will be followed by 002, and in moving on from version 1.0 to version 2.0, this ongoing cross-boundary collaboration will continue to open up new possibilities both for ZER01NE.CITY and for the future of mobility.

"ZER01NE.CITY v1.0"는 제로원 운영진, 제로원 크리에이터, 현대자동차그룹 남양연구소 차량유저빌리티개발팀, 미디어 기술 스타트업이 상호 협력하여 진행한 제로원의 오픈이노베이션 프로젝트이다. 이들은 자율주행기술의 미래 지향점은 무엇 인지, 그리고 자율주행차가 대중화된 도시의 모습과 사람들의 삶의 방식은 어떻게 변화하는가에 대한 질문에 답하기 위해 모였다.

이들이 고안한 근미래의 도시는 ‘ZER01NE.CITY’로 불린다. 2035년은 자율주행차(PBV, Purpose Built Vehicle), 자율비행체(UAM, Urban Air Mobility), 에너지/인프라 기술 등 고도화된 모빌리티 기술로 인해 도심에서 교외 지역으로 유연하게 이동 가능하고, 몇몇 구간은 하이퍼웨이가 개통되어 단시간에 장거리 이동이 가능하게 되었다.

2022 제로원데이 전시에서는 누구나 UAM과 PBV 환승 터미널이자, 크리에이터들의 협업의 공간인 Z-Station에 입장할 수 있으며, 미래의 자율주행차에 탑승하여 ‘ZER01NE.CITY’로 향하게 된다. 자율주행차 안에서는 천장을 통해 '인공지능 Aion(에이온)'을 만날 수 있으며, 측면을 통해서 자율주행차의 라이다 센서로 취득한 '환경데이터'가 인터랙션 게임과 아트, 블록뮤직이라는 '미디어'로 재탄생하는 과정을 체험하게 된다.

프로젝트에 참여한 구성원들의 이니셜을 가져와 만든 ‘HZ01-MNAZ-RND-001’의 팀명은 이색적인 협업의 상징을 넘어서, 예술과 기술의 융합이 빚어낸 상상을 현실 속 가능성으로 만드는, '제로원만의 창의적인 공식(Creative Formula)'을 의미한다. 001에 이어 002. 버전 1.0 에서 버전 2.0으로 '경계를 넘어선 협력'이 지속적으로 그려나갈 자율주행차와 제로원시티의 새로운 가능성을 제시한다.
