Meta Shell: Machine 01

Media art group Digital Serotonin, made up of ZER01NE Creators Caroline Reize and Seongmin Jo, explores the shifting relationship between ongoing developments in media technology and the resulting media experience environments.

Starting from a place of curiosity about the media environment we will experience once autonomous-driving is complete, "MetaShell: Machine 01" presents the connected car as a newly-emerging future medium. The autonomous vehicle of the future envisioned by Digital Serotonin is not just a means of transportation but a huge, computer and a miniaturized server. Building on V2X (Vehicle to Everything Communication) technology, that connects vehicles and vehicles, vehicles and humans, and vehicles and infrastructure, each connected car transmits a vast amount of data to users personal devices. This data is encrypted using blockchain technology and therefore recorded in each vehicle. The data is shared in-between vehicles so it moves and exists alongside its user at all times. This makes it possible for humans to exist and operate in a huge virtual environments corresponding to the real world. As a result, the boundary between reality and virtuality collapses in the new media environments presented by Digital Serotonin.

크리에이터 Caroline Reize(카로리네 라이즈)와 조성민으로 이루어진 미디어아트 그룹 Digital Serotonin(디지털 세로토닌)은 미디어 기술의 발전과 그에 따른 현재 대중의 미디어 경험 환경 사이의 관계 변화에 대해 탐구한다.

자율주행이 완성된 시점의 미디어 환경에 관한 호기심에서 시작한 "MetaShell: Machine 01"은 새롭게 등장할 미래 미디엄으로 커넥티드 카를 제시했다. Digital Serotonin이 상상한 미래의 차량은 이동 수단으로서의 역할을 넘어 스스로 움직이는 거대한 컴퓨터이자 소형화된 서버의 역할을 한다. 차량과 차량, 차량과 인간, 차량과 기반 시설을 이어주는 V2X(Vehicle To Everything Communication) 기술을 기반으로 각 차량은 스스로 방대한 양의 데이터를 운반, 처리하여 개인 디바이스로 전송하는 역할을 한다. 이와 동시에 데이터들은 블록체인 방식으로 암호화되어 각 차량에 기록되고, 물리적 공간에서 차량의 이동과 함께 이동하고 존재하며 공유된다. 동시에 인간은 현실세계와 대응하는 거대한 가상환경에서 활동하며, 그 안에서 일부 존재하게 된다. 이로서 현실과 가상의 경계가 무너지며, Digital Serotonin이 제시하는 새로운 미디어 환경이 구축된다.
